Job Shadow Narrative
For my job shadow, I interviewed and observed an RN. On the day of the job shadow, I observed when patients got their shots taken, and I saw what the patients had to go through. They are going through tough times right now, and some patients couldn’t really do much on their own, they always need someone to help them. The person I job shadowed was an RN, named Amanda Garcia on the eighth of March of 2016. I chose this because I love to help people, ever since I was little I would always help people no matter what it was I was helping with. The job shadow took place at Kaweah Delta Health Care District.
When I arrived at the location of the job shadow, the person I was interviewing was filling out some paperwork, and she had just finished filling them out. After that, we got started on the interview process of the job shadow at her desk. I asked her the questions that I had written down, and that process took approximately forty-five minutes to one hour. When the interview process was over, she showed me around the hospital, she showed me the equipment that they use and how to use it. I then got to observe how to treat severe wounds, and she also told me the whole process of going through surgery, which is a pretty long process.
One of the things I learned about was how to give CPR. I had already known how to give CPR, but I learned more on how to do it correctly. Another one of the things I learned to do, is how to put stitches on someone who has a wound, and there is a lot to putting stitches on someone than you think. I liked that everyone who works at the hospital is nice, because it makes me feel happy that the patients are getting the best help, and that they are getting their treatments so that they can get better. I also liked that they gave me permission to observe, because not all hospitals let people observe the nurses/doctors work. I did not dislike anything about my experience at Kaweah Delta, everything was absolutely amazing.
I am very much still interested in this job, because I still want to help people, I still want to make them feel better. The person I job shadowed, showed me that there is more to being any type of nurse, than just the money, and so she inspired me to keep working on pursuing my career. She inspired me to work harder, and to keep following my dreams and to not give up. This is the one job that I see myself being in the future, because I know if I keep working as hard as I am now, I will pursue my career as a Registered Nurse.
